Stereo Mix changing volume by itself.

I have an USB headset, that I use simultaneously with my speakers. And I've set up them in Stereo Mix for play back. With speakers being my main audio output, and headphones playing with the Stereo Mix help. Everything was ok (or I didn't notice at least) until I cleaned my pc with compressed air - maybe I broke accidently something on the motherboard?
Now, volume in Stereo Mix changes by itself, like you see in skype. I always set it to 40, since above that sound becomes VERY crappy, yet it changes to 80 and then back to 12 then back to 50~ and so on. What may be the case?
I even tried to set 40 manually, but the volume scroll gets out of my pointer and sets itself to 80.

sounds like a software, not hardware related issue. Has a program taken control of the audio settings (like skype does for example). check the preferences for all your running programs and see if there is a "automatically adjust volume" anywhere to be seen. Curse perhaps or other voip type thing. realtek audio manager etc etc etc.

I checked everything currently running what could use the audio and nothing seems to have auto adjustment...
