Hello Tom's hardware community,
I hope I'm posting in the required section because my question involves both CPU and GPU. Anyways, my motherboard just got fried, it was Gigabyte H97 with i5 4690 processor and Gigabyte GTX 960. PSU is VS550 (550W). Now before this happened, I was thinking of upgrading my GPU to 1070.
Now I have to possible course of actions:
1. Get a used 4th generation motherboard so I can keep using the 4690 processor, DDR3 ram and buy a GTX 1070.
Now the question here is will the 4690 bottleneck the GTX 1070? And for how long the 4690 can get me 60+ fps?
2. Get a new 7th generation motherboard with 7600,DDR4 ram and keep using the 960 for 2,3 months so I can get the GTX 1070?
Is it worth upgrading to 7600 first? How much of a performance difference will I miss if I keep using the 4690 with GTX 1070?
I hope I explained my queries well, hoping for a reply soon.
Thanks.
