Hey Guys,

Been pounding my head trying to figure out what I should do. I have a Gigabyte Z87X-OC not being used, and I was planning on getting the Intel I7-4790k processor for it, with 32GB ram.

SkyLake just came out, and uses the 1151 socket, and now I don't know what to do. The new DDR4 memory is nice, but doesn't appear to perform all that better then DDR3 right now.

With the I7-4790k I was planning on trying to get at least three good years out of it for animation/rendering video editing etc...

Should I go with a 1151 motherboard, or use the Z87 that I currently have? Appreciate your time, and any advice or help you can offer.

Thanks!

There's not going to be much difference at the moment. I think there's power consumption advantages, but that's about it.

Go with the 4790K, and throw the ~$100 you save on the motherboard at your GPU.

Appreciate that. I think that is the way I am leaning as well. I currently have two Gigabyte R9 280x's I am not sure if I should use them both in crossfire, or just use a single card. (The second one is just sitting in the box unused at the moment) I haven't tested them in crossfire for rendering or video yet. Would crossfire be the way to go? Appreciate your time.
