Hi-
I'm cross posting this to microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize and a
reply anywhere would be fine
I have some junk that keeps being reinstalled in my startup
(../windows/current version/run) that I can't get rid of. These items
are ghosts of software uninstalled quite a while ago, as well as some
more recently uninstalled stuff.
However I try to delete them, they either reappear by the next boot,
or I am forced to let them be restored by my startup monitor program.
I get the usual "allow this to be placed in startup?" and I get "yes"
or "no" options, but if I choose "no" the prompt comes right back. I
can continue only by choosing "yes". A number of cleanup and restore
functions I have tried, can't get rid of these. I have checked
msconfig.sys, and I don't believe there are any references to these
software items left.
I have tried to remove these via regedit in Win32 mode, but I get the
startup monitor prompt again.
I can't even figure out at what point or level in the boot, these are
boing pushed on me.
Where might I look, people?
This does not hurt my computer, but it does bug my a$$ off.
