Still fun?

Heya,

I quit DAOC about a year ago to concentrate on SWG (I had just been selected
for beta) and now I'm beginning to realize how much I miss it (esp. the PVP
aspect) and am thinking about renewing my account in the next couple of
weeks or so (until SWG's Space Expansion comes out). So my questions are: Is
it still fun? Has alot changed since last year? Are there still a lot of
people playing (I plan on going back to Kay)?

If you still have a level 50, it might be worth it for the Frontiers (free)
expansion.

There are still a lot of people playing, but if you were bored enough
with it to quit before, you're probably going to like it less, now. A
lot has definitely changed since last year, and being good in RvR
depends a lot more now on your equipment and special abilities than it
used to. It's still the skill of the player that really matters, but
when matched againts a player of equal skill, you'd better damned
well have as many toys and tricks as he does, or you're going down.

Frontiers may be interesting - I'd wait until it's released to renew,
unless you want to get ramped up with Trials of Atlantis MLAs and
artifacts first.

Well, Trials of Atlantis has kinda split the community more than before,
and some people resent the way it forces you to do things that are not
core DAoC in order to stay among the top dogs. But the server populations
are not much changed, although a somewhat higher number of the characters
are buffbots now. The newbie areas are ghost towns as most players are
old addicts making /level 20 characters. The level 20 areas are always
crowded, and the level 50 areas.

The free frontiers expansion promises to refresh the core DAoC features
with easier to access realm wars. It is not out yet, you may want to keep
watching the Herald and the boards.
