Stock Athlon 64 X2 3800+ temps

Hello all,

I am getting the following temps and am wondering if these are pretty standard:

36 C- 39 C no load
50 C under load

No overclocking (yet) and using stock hs and fan

Using artic silver 5 paste.

Using coolermaster centurion 5 case. 120mm back, 80mm front.

Are you using Cool n Quiet?

No, I have not turned it on, but I have installed the drivers for it. Would that make a huge difference?

Well, in my experience, Yes. I have the same processor at stock settings and although I have an aftermarket Thermaltake cooler(more for noise than anything else), my temps are in the 20s idle, and maby low 40s under load.

The system is very quiet, at least compare to my old one.

If you feel the need to spend an exorbant amount of money on a heatsink, at least buy one that's worth it. In fact, it currently has free shipping, making it cheaper than the Zalman.

Better yet, buy one for half the cost but get about 90-95% of the performance of the Zalman and save your money.

I just setup a new system with a x2 3800+ with the stock AMD fan.

At first I thought the fan was broken, but realized that cool n quiet was doing its thing.

idle temp is 18-19 C
load temp never goes above 40 C

I run a 2003 exchange virtual cluster (vmware server FREE,) a SQL virtual cluster and windows server 2003 for the host system. CPU gets hammer when I do testing on this system! Hasn't failed yet...

I'm impressed.

That's one cold room. Mine idles at around 35 but that's just because I think this room is always around 27 C
