I have recieved today my 2º 3D-Club 9800 Pro. (Had to RMA the first one). Should I stick with the stock cooling or change it? Is it safe enough to compensate the warranty loss?
I'm afraid the cooler stops again and to be without my baby once again!
Thanks in advance

9800 PRO coolers are actually decent and probably as efficient as, say, an aftermarket cooler. They just don't look as good.

They ARE held back by the use of thermal tape instead of thermal grease, however, and lapping the heatsink where it connects with the GPU certainly doesn't hurt either.

But if you're going to take off the thermal tape, you have to remove the shim so the heatsink can get a good solid contact with the GPU.

Grape what can you oc your card to w/o artifacts, core and mem?

I've never measured the temp of my 9800 core but how do you think that stacks up to a 285g copper volcano 10 (with the fan on it)? I've also got a side fan next to it.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too;)
Rachel:): why do we need money when we can just stay in our room and have sex all day?

I found the stock 9800Pro heatsink to be crap. The R-350 GPU needs better cooling, especially if your considering O/C.

I don't know why my name was envoked, I assume you meant GW, instead of me.

My card does 535/365(730) without artifacts in 3Dmk03, and will complete Aquamark 3 without noticeable artifacts (it crashes before anything when I go higher) @ 538/369 on stock cooling. Of course that's different than the R9800's situation.

And I'm sure you question of the mod is definitely not directed at me, because even OC'd to the t1t$ it's no comparison from my side.

Still we shall see whether the next generation offers much with 0.13 and low-k in these large trans count cards.
