Hello,

I was wondering if a stock cpu cooler, like from AMD is any good. What I mean is, will it do the job, and keep the cpu cool? Now I have to mention that I am planning on gaming on this pc. And does anybody know if AMD cpu coolers are loud?

Thanks.

Solution
Intel CPUs have a thermal advantage over AMD, because due to internal black magic (process, uarch mostly) they can run at lower speed and lower voltage to have very good performance. So, the stock cooler of Intel parts is usually fine, even for a mild overclock (200Mhz or so).

If you have the money for an aftermarket, it really doesn't matter if it's Intel or AMD; just get one and make sure it's a good quality one. There are some that perform actually worse (very cheap ones) than the stock one, so read about them. This page: www.frostytech.com has a *lot* of great information about the differences among stock and after market coolers, so go and have a read.

But long story short: if you have the extra money, it's not even a question...
The manufacturer has designed it to handle the stock configuration of the CPU with adequate cooling air circulating in the case. Will it be quite doing it? Probably not. It has a small diameter fan and less fin area then aftermarket coolers. Aftermarket coolers will be quieter.

The fans on AMD coolers are smaller so they need to spin even faster to keep the chips cool. The cooler itself isn't bad though, fairly large copper base, decent heat pipes. But yeah i is very loud, I ran mine with the stock for when I was doing the power up tests to make sure everything worked, very very loud. I wouldn't go really cheap if you go after market, like the $15 or less ones will perform worse than the stock because they aren't built all that well. So the EVO or even the plus whichever is cheaper is what you should get to avoid any loud noise. I personally just use a be quiet cooler, and it performs a lot better than the evo.

How about Intel?
I self have a Intel cpu,but im planning on upgrading it. I noticed that even if im gaming, the cpu fan is pretty damn quiet, and it keeps the cpu cool. But what about the i5 4460?

cheers!
