Stock heatsink or no?

I received a core 2 e8400 recently, and i was just wanting to know if I should use the stock intel heatsink or would the zalman CNPS9700 that i have work better?

i really just don't know how good the stock heatsink is,

what would you recommend i do?

Your zalman would be way better, Trust me...
I have that same CPU and the stock cooler was ok, but not so good....
The zalman would do much better...

Frankly, there's no need for anything but the stock cooler for an E8400 running at stock clock in a decent case.

But if you are planning to overclock, you will need better cooling.

Use the stock cooler first. If you're not happy with the temps, use the Zalman.

Explain to me what's the point in letting that nice zalman collect dust on a shelf?
And what's the point of doing extra work switching back and forth between the stock and the zalman?
Why not just install the better cooler once and make your computer nicer and have headroom for some overclocking?
No offense, but I think it's stupid to put the stock cooler on when you have a nicer aftermarket cooler lying around.

Wondering what the reason could be why you've not decided already to use the Zalman. Are you considering leaving the e8400 on stock settings and using the Zalman for a different CPU?
