Hey guys i have the phenom 955 BE 3.2 ghz 8mb processor.
I was told not to buy the 965, because I can slightly increasy the multiplier or voltage to match the 3.4ghz. I've already tested this out, but I wanted to know if anyone here has had any problems overclocking with the stock HSF?

THANKS

OC"ing it by 200 mhz should be fine, just remember not to leave the vcore on AUTO. otherwise your temps will skyrocket. Try setting it to 1.17-1.225 ( May be a tad bit off on these ) and see if it is stable. tends to be for even very slight OC's the vcore gets put up to 1.3-1.37 which increases the temps a lot. The less voltage the less heat so :)

Also what temps are you getting right now before you OC?

the voltage was already at 1.35 which seemed fine. Temps have never gone over 60c no matter what test i run. It idles at around 36-40c. I havnt touched the voltage so far, i just adjusted the multiplier and it seems ok.

Well no worries then, 60C is perfectly fine :)

No, 60c in not fine. The 955 will shut down at 68/70c and it is recommended that it stays below 58/60c if you want the chip to last. 1.35/1.37v should be enough voltage for 3.4Ghz. The stock cooler is junk unless you will leave it at 3.4Ghz... It is recommended that you invest in an aftermarket cooler if you decide to go higher.
