Just put the computer together but should mention that old motherboard had an issue and took me a while to realize that was the problem after a lot of attempts to re-install windows on my OS drive. I have all my data on other physical drives so I don't mind formatting the OS drive. Everything else to the best of my knowledge was functioning before I RMA'ed the mobo. I have a feeling that the multiple attempts to reinstall the OS on the drive might have done something to it, but I just don't know if this is SSD failure or something else. Not enough experience.

All advice welcome.

Using ASUS Z97 Extreme 6 board, already checked RAM before RMA and windows found it to be 100% functional, OS drive is SSD 250 GB Samsung Evo.

I would check for firmware updates to your SSD, check your cable connections to the SSD, maybe move the cables to a different port on the primary SATA controller (rather than the faster add on controller that may not have updated drivers installed yet)

You will also want to make sure you are not overclocking, and confirm your memory system is ok by running memtest86. Also make sure your BIOS is updated, important if you use a new low power CPU.

16 GB. 8 per stick, each stick is slotted in black slots on the mobo. exact same type.

Nothing is overclocked on the build. CPU is a non-K intel i7 so can't be overclocked. Cable connections were checked, and all drives are seen and recognized. Error that came up I know is related to the NFTS reading and writing so I was assuming corruption.

For DLing and running memtest86, do I just DL and uninstall it on a USB before booting up computer and booting from the external USB?

I am not sure if the BIOS is updated but also not sure how to update it without the OS being installed... how do I do that? 8D

So I changed cables, tried the RAM trick, got a new SSD, even tried getting a copy of Win7 Pro x64 onto a thumb drive (all legal from the MS site) just in case the problem was with the optical drive...

... and now have been sitting in the install portion where you try to select the drive to install the OS on. None of the drives are listed as being of the correct format. They are all visible with the correct amount of data on each though. This problem happens with the USB, which was formatted with Rufus to get the MB for BIOS and UEFI version of the disk.

When using the optical drive, I get to the expanding step before the BSOD at around 10-20% of expanding files. This is with the new SSD. An error message pops up saying that the install is cancelled, only giving you the option to click "ok". Then it goes to BSOD with STOP: 0x000000DE.

Do I need to format the SSDs somehow? I only have access to a mac. All the controllers are set to AHCI. I am assuming this is all a formatting compatibility problem now. I didn't have this problem with the ASRock Z97 Extreme4, but the Extreme6 seems to really be giving me a headache this time.
