Hello Hard-ons,

I built this PC recently:

i7-4770k
ASRock Fatal1ty H97 Performance
GTX 550 Ti 1GB
8GB 1333mhz ddr3 sdram
2TB WD Hard Drive
Corsair 430W PSU
NZXT Phantom 410 Black

I kept getting BSOD'd whenever I tried to play a game. Googling the stop code 0x124 lead me to believe it was my PSU, however upon wiping my HDD and updating to Windows 8, I then got the 2 following errors:

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR
WHEA_CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT

Googling WHEA_CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT leads to people telling you to update your BIOS and Chipset Drivers, and I did exactly that. I went to the ASRock site and got the INF and Instant Flash update files to update the BIOS firmware and Chipset drivers, since then (it's been 12 hours) I've not had one BSOD playing at 1080p + Max Settings (10fps) on Planetside 2, Battlefield 3, Warface, Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag or Tera.

I hope this helps anyone else who runs into the issue.

I have a feeling my specific motherboard was causing my CPU to fail, because I do remember being told I would have to update my motherboards firmware in order for my PC to work. Also, there may have been a driver clash, as I took this HDD out of a 4 year old PC. Backing up what you need and completely formatting a used HDD is always a good idea to remove any possible issues with your new hardware, especially considering your installs are linked to your current build and there will be compatibility issues when trying to run games you had already on that hard drive.

Kind regards,

cool, generally the BIOS update will fix the bugcheck 0x124 WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR from the CPU
if because the BIOS sets the default voltages to the CPU pins that corresponds to the clock frequency that it is currently running at.

the chipset driver tend to provide microcode that gets installed with windows that recodes for errors in the CPU electronics and fixes errors in the USB chipset that tend to be the root cause of
bugchek 0x101 CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT
(assuming your device driver for your USB device is up to date)
