Storage HDD not showing up

Good evening everyone, I have a 2tb hard drive that I use as storage along side my other 2tb main hard drive. Its fairly new but has the problem of not showing up from time to time.

It will be good for months, then not show up for sometimes weeks, then one day show back up and work for weeks or months. Its currently not showing up again. Does anyone know of a fix? I dont want to wipe it as I have games and files I do not want to lose unless I have to.

As always any help is truly appreciated!


EDIT: When I go into disk management it says I need to initialize the hard drive before I can use it. Will doing that fix my problem? If so will it wipe out all data on that HDD?

I don't remember if initializing the HDD wipes it out, but I'd make sure all my data on it were safe on another storage HDD before trying that out. Google it to be sure.

Initializing will absolutely wipe out everything on the drive.
Completely.

Try a different cable or a different SATA port.

Thats what I thought, I tried different sata ports and cables in the past with no luck, but I will try again and hope for the best.

Try also using another power cable from the PSU for good measure.

Wow, I tried another psu cable and it works now! I figured since it was humming even when broke it was getting power, but that fixed it! Thank you both for taking the time to help me out!
