Hello, I just purchased 4 2Tb Sn770 m.2's which are gen 4 and an asus ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 PCIe 4.0 X4 Expansion Card. Moreover, I'm running a asrock x299 killer sli ac Motherboard. now I know it's gen 3 but I figured why not buy gen 4 for future proofing. In addition, I did look in my bios to see if the motherboard supported Bifurcation and it does. The question comes to this Vroc do I need the upgraded chip to run those M.2's in raid 0 or can I do that without the upgrade chip. Moreover, as for my pcie expansion slots I'm running 2 2080 Ti's in sli mode and a capture card, and sound card. I know I'm going to have to remove the captrue and/or sound card to put in the asus pcie ssd card, but how will this effect the sli gpu setup. Lastly, before anyone asks this setup is custom water-cooled.

What cpu are you using?
If you have 2 graphics cards connected, then you do not have free PCIE slot with full x16 connectivity.
ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 PCIe 4.0 X4 Expansion Card - requires full 16 lanes for all 4 M.2 drives to be operational.
*If you install CPU with 44 lanes, PCIE1/PCIE2/PCIE3/PCIE5 will run at x16/x4/x16/x8.
If you install CPU with 28 lanes, PCIE1/PCIE2/PCIE3/PCIE5 will run at x16/x4/x8/x0.
If you install CPU with 16 lanes, PCIE1/PCIE2/PCIE3/PCIE5 will run at x16/x4/x0/x0 or x8/x4/x8/x0.

I'm running a 7960x cpu which supports up to 44 lanes. Hmm I over looked that, I would have to set the two gpu's to 8x so I can run the 4 on the third pcie x16 slot, if it will allow it that is, or upgrade the cpu to the 10980xe but this late in the game dunno about that.

yeah I might be able to configure it to 8x speeds for the gpu's, however I'd have to remove my capture card and sound card as well. and if I can do this that would be a total of 36 lanes because of the os drive. Now I know the bios has the options but that doesn't mean it will work. I'm not sure if 2 2080 ti's can be run at 8 x each, but I'll test it next Tuesday. I don't mind losing the capture card, but the sound card that will be a issue, due to my communications setup. If it will work like the math supports then I'll be able to run the sound card, we will know more next week.

Okay I've been doing some testing with my bios today, after realizing my oversight thanks to skynetrising, it does seem I can run gpu 1 at 16x and gpu at 8x and pcie 5 at 4x4x4x4. Now if my math is right this will give me 40 pcie lane in use, plus the 4 lanes the os m.2 will use which will give a grand total of 44. Moreover, I have 5 monitors on my system 4 24 in 1920x1080 and 1 40in 4k, all monitors and tv run 60 fps. Nevertheless, the second gpu is mostly to allow 2 of the monitors to be active, I do disable them and run sli mode when needed though. I will have to compromise, with the capture card and sound card.
I can easily run the capture card in my x299 asus rig thats running a 9900x and my old pny 1080 xlr8 with 32Gb 3600 mhz ddr 4. In order to run the sound card in my main system, I'd have to upgrade the cpu to either the 10980xe or 10900x, and well I'm not sure if I want to do that, but seeing the support for 12gen pcie lanes, it would be a option, or sell one of the systems and build amd thread ripper system. at least there are options available.

Okay, so it's been a rough week for me when testing and trying to get all of this stuff to work as intended. Nevertheless, it's Mostly finished and working great so far. Moreover, I had to rebuild both my systems, including the water loop in my main system. All of this because of the pci Express lane limit. Moreover, the sli set up is no more, and I've put the air cooler back on the arous extreme, replace the thermal pads on the air cooler, and the temps are terrible. 83 to 95 gpu in cyber punk, memory and hotspot 106, needless to say not good. I used 0.5mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5mm and 3.0 mm. and I have a feeling I should of just used 0.5 mm ,1.0mm, 2.0mm. but this is a guess.

if anyone has replaced the thermal pads on a AORUS GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti XTREME 11G please let me know, because I'm tired of wasting money on this crap.
