Hi, I have a pretty bad problem. I have a brand new build, but neither of my drives are recognized in the BIOS or when attempting to install Windows. It finds my USB flash drive that has Windows on it fine. I've tried pretty much everything, and need some help. Here's my build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Jawz_cod/saved/XqbH99

Here's everything I've tried:
- Using another SATA power cable
- Using another SATA cable that connects to motherboard
- Trying different slots on motherboard and PSU
- I've sent in my motherboard for RMA after Asus told me to, but I got my new one and have the same problem

Thanks if you help, this is a big problem, because I've had my computer for a month without being able to use it, which obviously sucks.

This is my first time building a PC, and my old ones can't fit them sadly. I ordered my SSD and HDD from different places, so wouldn't it be very unlikely that both are defectives?

Correct, chances are both aren't defective. The point to putting them into another computer would be to prove that they are not defective. This means, in effect, that the motherboard is at fault.

It's going to be much harder and we are going to have to do things the long way. First we need to know a few things.

1. Have you tried different SATA cables and in different SATA ports on the motherboard?
2. Has there ever been a time when the bios recognized the drives?
3. Have you ever reset the bios? If not, do it. Just disconnect the PC from the wall and take out the battery for a couple of minutes.

1. I have tried other SATA cables and ports.
2. I'm not 100% sure, but I thought it said "Hard Drive" in the boot list in my BIOS the first time I turned the computer on with my second motherboard. It went away when I restarted it with my USB in to install Windows and hasn't been there since.
3. I'll try that in a little bit. When I was talking to Asus support before they sId to RMA my original board, they told me to do that but changed their mind saying I could damage the board and that not all batteries were remove able.

I kind of doubt the problem is with the motherboard, because having two defective ones in a row doesn't seem very likely, and nobody else in the newegg reviews for the board seem to have had this problem. But thank you for your help so far!

That's really weird that ASUS would say that some batteries were not removable. I've never seem a PC motherboard that didn't have a removable battery unless it was for really small devices. It should just be a round silver battery that can be pop'ed out with a small flat-head screwdriver pretty easily.

Can you go into the bios menu and see if you can find either of the drives in there? They will either be in storage options or in boot options.

No, I can't find any of the drives in the BIOS menu. Here's some images I took so the problem is a little bit easier to understand:

http://prntscr.com/8owp9u
http://prntscr.com/8owom4
The first image is after I click accept terms and conditions, and the second image is what happens if I click load drive. I'm not sure if it's an issue of the hard drives or drivers, but I tried putting all of the Asus drives onto the sub and selecting them, but it doesn't fix anything.

Is there an LED anywhere that tells if the drives are even getting power, because I feel like that might be the problem, but I don't know.

Sorry for the late reply, your reply didn't show up when I refreshed the page every day, and I've been kind of busy. Thanks again for your help.

No problem. You should be able to hear and feel the mechanical hard drive during startup.

Another thing, the find drivers screen you showed in the picture will only come up if there is something wrong with the installation media. I would recommend you try to install windows from another source.

Ok, I'll try to download from another source when I have time.

Because it's my first build, I'm not sure what the HDD is supposed to feel like. If it's vibrating, I can hardly feel it. I turned my fans to low and was still not sure if I could hear it, or if it's just my case and fans.
