Well, you might as well format it in MBR. This format is usually used with any drive below 2.2 TB. It is the standard partitioning scheme and it supported up to 4 partitions on the drive. If you want to have more than 4 partitions on it, then I guess you should go with GPT.
If you were to have a 3TB, let's say, then you wouldn't have any choice and would need to format it in GPT.
