Early next year, I intend to build a high-spec PC.

I'll be using an (PCIe5.0) 4TB SSD for both the OS (Win11Pro), and for Games that require fast-access.

It's probably a good idea to Partition this SSD, allowing plenty of space for the OS (and maybe a few other key Apps to be determined later), with the rest of the space for Games. I'm thinking of something like 500GB for OS/Other Apps, and 3.5TB for Games.

As I'll be building the Rig from scratch, I'll be installing Win11Pro, debloated ideally.

How would I best go about creating such a Partition?

Is this something I can do BEFORE I install Win11, on another machine, to effectively create C: and D: in advance, and then install to C:?

Or, is it easier to do it directly after a Win11 install, on the new Rig?

How should I best go about it?

Just to touch base, you're not going to tell the difference between PCIe4.0 and 5.0 drives. If the latter costs you a pretty penny, you can get the former.

No it's not. You should leave each SSD as is, so in your predicament, if you intend to have 500GB or some such set aside for the OS, then get a 500GB SSD to begin with. People here tend to show up asking for RAID0, partitioning and other things, you're going to get the most performance out of your SSD without partitioning it, without filling it up to the brim and without running disk defragmentation.

Not what I asked.

*It may be that the Motherboard I buy, only supports 1 x PCIe5.0 SSD. I will be using PCIe5.0 for my OS and hi-end Games. Regardless of 'if I notice it or not' and 'cost'. These did not form part of my question - why add them to it?

Can you please delete your replies, so the thread isn't derailed by your answers to a question I didn't ask?

After the windows install boot up a copy of....partition wizard free.

You'd need to "shrink" the C partition by X amount of GB. X will then be shown as "unallocated space". You'd then format that unallocated space as you see fit...one or more additional partitions.

You might be able to do the shrinking with Windows Disk Management. If it balks, use a third party tool like Minitool Partition Wizard. It's quite good.

I'd get a separate drive for OS (500GB) and separate drive for games.

You're building a new system. Choose a motherboard with support for multiple M.2 drives.

Anway, @MnsoonMally - it's fine. Do as you'd like. Win10/11 has an install option to size the 'C' drive to the size you want (look it up, and can't remember). I'd do 1TB/3TB - but your selection may be fine if you mainly do gaming and web-browsing. I do some productivity and sftw development - so 500GB is too small for me.

Create your second partition 'D' after install by using disk management (computer management component). It's easy. Good Luck!
