[SOLVED] Storage recommendation

Hey guys, so I have a 50 dollar budget for a new storage device. Would you recommend a 1-2tb hard drive, a 480-500gb ssd or a 250gb M.2 NVMe drive?

Keep in mind that at the moment I only have a 120gb SSD in my system.

Whatever you do recommend, I would also appreciate specific models if possible.

At a $50 budget, ignore anything 'NVMe'.

I’ve only had it like 2 weeks. Just normal usage, I watch some movies, i code sometimes, my wife plays some The Sims. No really heavy gaming.

And really? I’ve seen some NVMe drives within my budget on Newegg, brands like SP and etc.

So the size of the NVMe drive affects the performance? Or do you just mean “cheap stuff is bad stuff”? And uh, I have a ryzen 5 1400, rx 480, msi b350 gaming plus, EVGA 450w PSU.

I’d say the bigger the better but I would obviously prefer faster loading. I found a Kingston Q500 500gb SSD on Newegg, would that be good?

If you like to play a lot of different games I would go with a 2tb hard drive, that way it’s one and done. The fact that you already have an ssd is good because you should have fast boot times already. I wouldn’t waste money on an m.2 because it’s not that big of a difference, a regular ssd is fast enough in my opinion.

That is a SATA drive, just like the Crucial MX500 I linked above.

Well yes, I know it’s a SATA drive, but it’s almost double the amount of storage for the same price though.

Read speed only benefits from the 'hybrid' thing for that data which resides in the small cache. Unless you're reading the same data over and over, it is still read off the drive at HDD speed.

I haven’t heard anything good about hybrids but it all depends on how much storage you need. If you need the pc for minor tasks and a couple games go with the Kingston, if you need 1tb of storage or more the link I sent you is probably the best deal for $50. You can use the ssd you already have to boot the pc and use the 2tb seagate for storage. An ssd is mostly gonna affect boot times, it’s not gonna make your pc faster.

Having a solid state drive makes everything and interaction on that drive 'faster'. It is far more than simply 'boot time'.
Will it get you more FPS in a game? No. That is GPU and CPU dependent.
Will it make the entire PC experience snappier? Yes.

Sounds like you've never used a system with a solid state drive in it.
It is far more than just faster boot time.

I have an ssd lol, the only difference is when it loads programs like games or apps other than that it’s a matter of a couple second difference, but I’m saying with a $50 budget the 2tb is the better buy if you need the storage and if you don’t the ssd makes more sense as I mentioned above

Noise, power, heat...all better with SSD's.

anything is better with more money, that’s kinda obvious but within the budget is the question and is it worth it, no not really especially if you already have an ssd to put the os on
