storing games on a hard drive

I got a Raspberry Pi 3 B+
I also have some games lying around. So how to download them to the hard drive to play on the Raspberry Pi 3 B+

it needs to be whatever OS you are running on your pi. i.e. some flavour of linux, and not windows, and obviously the games need to be able to run on very low powered hardware.

Please clarify: are you asking how to store them, where to store them, how to connect the storage, etc.?

I'd imagine any retro games will all fit on your Pi's local storage (SD card). If not, a USB flash drive should do. If that's still not big enough then put a HDD or SSD in an external USB enclosure. Or, you might download them to another PC, share the folder, and have you Pi access it over the network.
