So once upon a time there was a guy who was in love with 4870s. He always wanted one but had never gotten around to buying one. So a few days ago he finally has had enough and orders one off of newegg. This guy also is quite a fan of ebay; and browses the listings for random deals almost every day. Only two days after ordering the 4870, he sees a 3870x2 listed as a buy it now for $150, or a Best Offer. He thinks "Hah. I'll just offer $100 and see what happens." You can all see where this is going...The seller accepts the offer of $100 and now it's looking like the guy is going to have to return his 4870 to newegg.

I'm thinking about keeping the 4870 and putting the 3870x2 on ebay again.

The 4870 takes less power, is a lot faster, and doesn't have to deal with CF. Ebay the 3870X2, and take the lost money as payment for a lesson learned.

The 4870 will also have a warranty and support. The 3870X2 may have been sprayed by a tomcat; so I need to agree with Dekasav.

Yeah I agree with you guys, that is the best option. Hopefully I can get ~$80 for the 3870x2. $20 loss...Could be worse. And that way i get to use the greatest video card of all time.

$100 for a 3870x2 doesn't seem especially bad to me. You might lose $10 on a resale, maybe you'll gain $10.

I see that a few people have enlightened you to the error in your thinking.
Don't fell bad though, those auctions can just jump up and grab you. Once you get the auction fever, it's hard to keep a good sense of value in mind. That is why they are so popular! I used to go to auctions all the time, and it will amaze you what people will pay for crap when they start the bidding fever. It is just nuts.
From the first read of your story I was thinking, why on earth would anyone be bidding on a 3870X2 when they had already bought and had a much newer, and faster card on the way?

lol. poor fallen, sorry 2 hear buddy. my story's kinda the opposite of yours :T

i sold my 3870x2 to a friend (whom i persuaded should get a new computer, which i put together for him, wa ha ha?), for 95$. then i used that money for my 4890 which i have currently =X

Haha I would never hate you for coming out better than I did. If I hated people for having better hardware than I do...I would hate a good amount of people. My original plan was actually similar to what you did. I was going to sell my 8800GTS and put that money towards my 4870. Now I just see it as putting some of that money to cover this little mishap and now it just covers a smaller portion of the 4870 price. I'm going to have a hard time parting from a 3870x2... I have issues when it comes to getting rid of good hardware that isn't too old yet. I should probably not even open the box.

Also, mousemonkey, I'll eventually have that damn video of me running the ATI card with the NVIDIA one doing PhysX. I've been putting in 10 hour days at work, so it keeps slipping my mind. I've got a new acrylic case coming, so maybe I'll redo it after I get it all set up and whatnot.
