Story?

I'm wondering if the story continues where Part 2 ended? How about
machines? What's with the metal age? How much time between Thief 2 and 3?
Anyone?

It continues from where Thief 2 left off. No idea how long after but it's
not a smooth transition, so it could be any amount of time. I get the
feeling, based on contact with the Keepers that not much time has passed,
but there's no sign or mention of the Mechanists by the other factions. So
where Thief 2 ended with a kind of hanging ending, where Garrett was about
to be admitted to read a mysterious text where he's mentioned, that's not
where Thief 3 begins. But I'm still early in the game, so it may clear up.
At the very least it's apparent 4 years have passed since T2 was releases

Hmm... I'm wondering why the mechanists are not mentioned. But I still
believe it's not a 'real' Sequel, otherwise the story would have been
continued. Wasn't there a book mentioned at the end of T2? Is that book
in T3?

Mechanists have been mentioned! WOO HOO! in answer to your book
question... sort of. I don't really understand how it all ties together,
but it's trying to sort itself out
