Question Strange behaviour, can't boot into OS

Jan 21, 2021
Hello everyone,

I built a computer last year with a core i3 9th gen and it worked beautifully. No complaints. This year, I decided to upgrade and buy a core i7. However, this also meant purchasing a new motherboard since the new processor wasn't compatible with my current hardware. I upgraded from msi z390 to msi z490

Today I installed my new motherboard and new core i7 processor, everything is installed properly, cables and all. I've double and triple checked.

When I turn it on, the fans are much louder, the cpu is over heating (I'm getting cpu overheating warnings), and I can't boot into my OS, I'm stuck in the bios control screen. From the bios controls, I can see the storage drive with my OS is properly inserted, as is the processor and ram.

I have no idea how to fix this. I would appreciate any help and support.
