strange CPU Cool/SpeedFan temp

I get three different Temps with CPU Cool and SpeedFan. The Temps are Identical in both Programs:

Temp 2 is the CPU temp (its about 35-40°C (95-104°F) with the highest Fan Speed, depending on CPU usage and Fan Speed)

Temp 3 is the case temp (always around 25°C (77°F))

I dont know what temp 1 is. It gets higher, when the CPU fan speed gets higher or when I insall more case Fans. Its aways about 50-55°C (122-131°F). Does anyone know what this temp is? Has it anything to do with the northbridge?

No, it wouldn't be the northbirdge, its probably the knock-off temperature, heh. Temperature readings aren't always right, and I can simply tell you that I get three different temps on my system too, 37*C which is my CPU temp (using motherboard monitor 5), 41*C which is the badly calculated temp based on motherboard software and 29*C case temp (motherboard monitor 5 and motherboard software)... The 50-55*C temperature reading is probably a badly placed thermister (perhpas placed <i>beside</i> the CPU socket, or just improper calculations made by the motherboard's software... You can always open up the case and touch the CPU's heatsink at its base - you'll be able to tell if its running at 35*C or 55*C, its the difference between nice and warm and a little too hot to the touch.

I have made a little test: the temp is only 22°C (72°F) with low fan speed and 42°C (107°F) with medium speed. After I raised the fan speed to high again, the temp increased to 63°C (145°F), but decreased in a few seconds to 57-59°C (135-138°F). After about 15 minutes it was 55-57°C (131-135°F).

What I forgot to say is, that temp 1 is not shown in the BIOS (the temps 2 and 3 are identical with the CPU/Enviroment temps in the BIOS).

I touched the CPU heatsinks base. It daesnt seem to be warm at all.

you need to understand that software like Speedfan, MBMonitor and MBProbe is written to encompass a wide range of motherboards.

The SMB (System Metrics Buss) is not standardized. Some motherboards have the CPU on channel 1 others put it on Channel 2 or 3... some provide tachometers for 2 fans, some for three... and these too can be on differing SMB channels.

To scoop in as many motherboards as possible there will be extra channels included in these softwares that may not be used on your motherboard. There may also be outright incompatibilities between the way readings are developed in your software and on the motherboard.

The best bet is to go into your bios, let the system warm up and stabilize at idle and make note of temps and fans. Then, go into your monitoring software, enable and label channels with the same readings and disable the others.

This sounds like an incompatibility... in all likelyhood you are seeing a fan speed being mis-read as a temperature.

I get three different fan speeds in SpeedFan and CPUCool, and I have three fans connected to the MOBO.

The BIOS only shows temp 2(CPU) and temp 3 (enviroment).

And it is likely all the other channels are "floating" or erroneous... just disable them in the software and forget about it.

I dont know what channels you mean, but if you mean different fan channels: I only have 3 fan-connectors on my MOBO.

damn thats some weird happenings with your temps... well, as long as its not too warm to the touch then its fine, I mean basically if it ain't broke don't fix it... what temp does your BIOS read-out for the CPU core ? Also, you might want to try updating your BIOS to the newest one available, see if that helps... oh yeah, and try downloading Motherboard Monitor 5 and see what temps it reads-out

The BIOS reads 35-40°C (95-104°F) for the CPU at high fan speed. This is identical with temp 2 in CPU Cool/SpeedFan. When I touch the base of the cooler at high fan speed, it doesnt seem to be warm at all.

alright, thats kewl then, there's no need for you to worry, just ignore that higher temp (the one that changes around). besides, if you d/l motherboard monitor 5 most here can vouch that you'll be able to trust its results more than the majority of software temperature monitors

The channels I'm referring to are hardware ports that are used to monitor temperature and fan speeds. These are read by software and displayed on your screen.

It sounds to me like one of the channels being read as a temperature is actually a fan speed channel... So long as you have accurate monitoring for the CPU temp and CPU fan, you can just disable the errant channels in the software as they are basically meaningless anyway.

In short I'm telling you that you are getting all het up about nothing.
