I've just unmasked the strangest thing I've ever seen in a video cable. I have a Zotac 1080 AMP Extreme that had odd power on issues and would freeze upon sleep or shut down. Some times trying to power on it just went into an infinite power on attempt and shut down real quick, power on etc. I tried changing cables and no luck. Just by coincidence I had a different set of cables on the card and did a cmos reset..all was normal...power on, sleep, shut down for the whole day. It made me wonder if the cmos reset was what was wrong right off the bat so being curious I tried the first set of DP 1.2 cables. They're iogear DP - M to M - 4 ft. Only tried one monitor for now. Thing does just like before and would boot up to windows 7 x64 fine just once...try to sleep or power down it freezes. Force a shut down and try to power on and goes to infinite cycle thing again and won't power up. Swap cable...no change. Do another cmos reset again and all is fine. Can someone please tell me how the heck a DP cable can do anything to cmos to cause this that a cable swap won't fix? Only cmos reset fixes it. I duplicate the problem so I know it's really happening. If so boy I'd never buy another iogear DP cable because it makes a mess of things.
