I honestly wasn't even sure where to post this, as I don't know if this is a hardware or software issue.

I've been building pcs for damn near 20 years now and I have never encountered an issue like this, and I can't figure out what is causing it. Unfortunately I do not have footage of the issue as it happens randomly, typically once or two every hour or so, and I have not been able to recreate it. So I will do my best to try to describe it through text.

I just built a brand new pc about a week ago; MSI z790 godlike, 13900k, gskill 16gb x2 6000mhz, 2tb 980 pro, 1200w psu. Everything has been fine except this problem.

While gaming, randomly, I will lose control of my keyboard. If I'm playing a fps game my character will still move in random directions, I still have control of the mouse but no control over the keyboard. I can use the windows key to minimize the game but then pressing any keys causes random apps to open. I can, for instance, press G and it will open up a window explorer tab. Nothing I do fixes the issue, it just corrects itself after a few minutes. I have tried unplugging and replugging in the keyboard, using different ports, trying to open task manager. Nothing works.

I have ruled out that it is not the keyboard itself, I disabled xmp, and I have all the latest drivers and windows updates installed. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I'm at least trying to figure out if it is a hardware or software issue, as I have until the end of the month to send my hardware back to amazon for a replacement.

I'm hoping you guys could provide any suggestions as to what to try. I'm mostly frustrated because as I said I can't recreate this issue at will and it just happens occasionally. Any trouble shooting ideas would be much appreciated.

This would imply software issue. Most likely corruption. Format the OS drive and make a clean Win install. This is the fastest/best way to get rid of software issues.

If the issue comes back after clean Win install, i'd try with 2nd KB. Since you didn't say which KB you have, it's "brains" could be scrambled up. E.g modern mechanical KBs have their own firmware and macros, that can go haywire.

I will try a clean install of windows, but I also just built this pc a week ago so there is very little on it. I have the anne pro 2, sorry I didn't mention that part. I have tried other keyboards so it's definitely not the keyboard itself.

As far as software, the only thing I can think of maybe causing issues is MSI Center, it was automatically installed through the USB provided with all the drivers. I will try uninstalling that tonight and see if it is what's causing the issue. Another thing I have noticed is that the lightning settings never save on my keyboard, which was not an issue with my old build. Every time I launch my pc I have to go into obinskit, the software for the anne pro 2, and select the lightning settings I want.
