Question Strange problem in games

I have a pc with one
Intel i7 8700k CPU
Msi z370 gaming plus motherboard
16gb hyper x 3200 rgb ddr4
Gpu nvidia rtx 2070 8gb gddr6 gigabyte windforce
Ssd WD blue 256gb
hdd toshiba 1tb

I have problems with strong frame drops in several games ... some become unplayable ... especially when installing old games
the case is that I have gotten a temporary solution ... and it consisted of installing a new firewall in my case I installed the zonealarm and
solved those performance problems in many games that worked badly ... my question is
where exactly does the problem come from?
