Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody on here had any ideas what could be wrong with my new install i am putting together.

It comprises of:
p4 3.4 cpu
abit fatal1ty f190-hd
2gb single module kingston 800mhz ram
1 x 500gb sata hdd
1 x ide dvd drive

The problem is that when i switch the pc on, i am unable to enter the bios (it just ignores my keypress of 'del' to enter the bios) and instead of attempting to boot to any devices, i get a cursor plashing in the top left corner of the screen.

The interesting part is here...
if i press the restart button, it works, and boots into windows, and i could enter the bios. If i reboot windows, it works fine booting back up also.

The problem re occurs if i power off the pc. on first startup, i get a flashing cursor, unable to do anythign at all. if i now press the retsrart button, it works fine!

Im pulling my hair out with this one!!!

it sounds almost like your keyboard isn't fully detected by the computer on bootup. does the numlock light come on when you first turn it on? also, is the keyboard connected to a usb hub? if it is, try connecting it directly. i've had a similar problem to this because my keyboard was connected to a hub.

Thanks for the reply, i sorted it yesterday, all i could put it down to was an extremely picky motherboard!

I swapped the memory module for a different one, and it was ok, even though i know the memory is fine as it works in all the other pc's i have tested it in :pt1cable:
