Strange screeching sound when turning off PC

Hello!

I have rather weird issue. A while ago I installed a new SSD - Samsung 840 EVO and after a couple of months my system started making a strange screeching sound (for just a second or so) before it turned off. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not.

I think it might also be coming from the PSU, but I'm not sure. The only thing I know for sure is that it cannot come from other components, because recently I upgraded to Skylake meaning that I changed my CPU, cooler, MB and RAM. The strange sounds still occurs.

Could you please help me figure out what could it be and if it is something I should be worried about? The sound itself does not bother me, but I wonder if it could cause some permanent damage to one of the components.

Cheers, Ruiner

Hey there, Ruiner!

Well, since you have an SSD in your system that would definitely rule out a damaged mechanical hard drive (since they have the tendency to make such unpleasant noises when physically damaged). If you are suspecting the power supply as the source of the issue, I'd strongly recommend you to replace it or test it for issues ( http://www.howtogeek.com/172933/how-can-i-test-my-computers-power-supply/ ). If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, turn to a professional PC repair service and let the tech guys there troubleshoot your system from top to bottom.

If it's indeed a failing PSU I'd advise to be very careful, it could potentially do quite the damage on your other components.

Good luck! Hope I was helpful...
