Im a bit confused about the results I am getting using various temp "reading" programs.

This is my system:

C2D 6600 @ Stock speeds
CNPS9500-AT at max speed.
P5B
and Antec P180 with all three fans on high.

Ambient temp.: 23c

Readings:
Idle for a couple of min. 0% to 5% cpu usage .

TM1 -> TAT and Core temp.: Jumping between 22c, 23c and 24c.
TM2 -> Speedfan and Asus PC Probe 2: 41/42c

TAT at 100% work load after 1min

TM1 -> TAT and Core temp.: 39/ 40c on both
TM2 -> Speedfan and asus pc probe 2: 55/56c

The later two did at one time all of a sudden jump to 90c and stayed there untill i rebooted..

I hope that TM2 is reading the wrong temp, because should TM1 be approx. 15c hotter than TM2? Alteast thats the numbers represented in the stickied temp. guide.

Your complaint is common among the motherboards which support 965 chipsets. Please list your Frequency and Vcore. 8)

Stock speed.

From CPU-Z:

Core Speed: 2402.0
Bus Speed: 266.9
Voltage: 1.280

Thanks for helping

My E6400 & 965p motherboard likes to default to 1.4v+
What's a "good" Vcore for a mild overclock (~350 Mhz & 9x)
for a high overclock (400 & 9x)
I'm just trying to understand "normal".
BTW- my CPU seems to run much cooler with small volt decreasing.
thanks!

Well, can anyone explain to me what is wrong and which temp to trust?

Your temps show inverted values, but are otherwise reasonable. As I mentioned in my above post, this temp inversion problem is frequently reported among 965 chipset users. The Core Temp TM1 values are incorrectly assigned a - 15c offset, while the CPU Case Temp TM2 value is incorrectly assigned a + 15c offset, so the result is inverted temps. Check with your motherboard's website for BIOS and driver updates.

Hope this helps. 8)
