does anyone know how blockout scores its points. i've been playing this
game for a long time, and have yet to figure out why some builds score
more than others. yes there are the obvious scores when i clear 3 rows
or clean out the box, etc etc.

but there are times when i get good scores for inconsequential clears,
seems to me.

and at other times i will finish a level and i will get a few hundred
more points on what seemed like an average level.

any help? or is there a site that talks about arcade game strategy?

thanks

there are games that i finish considerably faster than other slower
games, i don't discern enough difference. i'm talking about what seems
like out of the blue, i score SEVERAL HUNDRED more points than i
normally do. i'll try going through level one super fast while trying
max points.

the level screen.hmmmmmmmmm oh well.

100 says the info sites. And then it starts over.
I haven't checked that number myself though. 😉

See MARP for some great recordings:

On MAWS for example, see 'additional information':
http://www.mameworld.net/maws/set/blockout

But as I said, I haven't checked this myself.

Blockout will give bonus points when the last piece you need to fill a grid matches the next piece the game gives you, and the entire grid empties all at one time. I also believe that the game favors your scoring when you don't make any mistakes like putting a piece down, and accidentally covering an open space. I also believe the game favors your scoring when you place a piece given in a similar open space of the same shape at the soonest oportunity. I seemed to score bonus points more often in games played like this. I have done these things, and notice my scores are higher. I have also been told that the faster you get a piece down in place the better your scores are. How much the game gives in bonus points or how many extra points you get when you do things that favor your scoring. I don't really know. I also have a hunch that the game might score a little differently on different computers. For the last three years I have not been able to get a new score posted on my top 10 scoreboard. Then one day I played a game very slowly made no mistakes as far a covering up empty spaces, and placed pieces in same shaped empty spaces at the soonest opportunity, and the game held each playing level for longer periods of time. When the game got to level 8 I started placing pieces as fast as I could, and to my surprise I posted several new scores on my top 10 scoreboard for the first time in Three years. I thought I had peaked in my scoring ability three years ago, but here I was posting new scores on my board. Now how does this figure? Blockout has nine levels. I have played this game for nearly 30 years. I was 35 years old the first time I ever saw this game.
