Stress testing on cpu

So i overclocked my cpu (3.2 ghz -> 3.8 ghz, six core) and whenever i stress test it my computer crashes practically instantly. But when gaming/rendering videos i never crash. It's never unstable/making artifacts. So is this unstable? why should it matter if it's unstable if it doesn't even affect me?

Those tests are designed so they put as much strain on processor or part tested that it's rare for any program/game to match it.

Yes, it's unstable. You should increase your voltage slightly or decrease your clock to 3.7.

As for why you should care, there's a chance your system might crash halfway through rendering or gaming. (Mine crashed while shutting down)

Stress testing helps to understand if the system can be smoothly operated under full load. Possibly this does not happen in the games you play but is still a potential scenario. Proper OC deserves a stable stress test e.g. using Prim95 for a couple of hours also monitoring CPU temps. Not more, not less.

Stress testing is primarily troubleshooting tool so you can see which exact part or process is failing.
