I have a Strix GTX 1070 8GB graphics card and an Intel Core i5 6600K processor. The temps when idling are around 35 on the graphics card and 28 on the processor, and then the graphic card goes up to nearly above 70 when gaming. Are these normal temps? And what are the max temps for these two?

Thanks for all help.

Solution
Absolutely normal. under 100% load i would imagine the 1070 stay at or under 80c with max fans. Perfectly safe for continued, extended use.

6600k is about the same, it probably will never hit 80c, but if it did it would be totally fine. I'd imagine around 70c to be your operating temp.

Thanks alot. Just another quick question, what can the consequences of overheating a graphics card or an processor actually be? Do they just break and stop working?

They typically have protection, so once it starts to overheat it'll down-throttle its clock rate to cool down. if the temps get too high it'll just shut off the PC.

Good to know. But I'm sure it does some damage to them in the longrun?

I mean, usually the silicon chips aren't the first things to break, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Okay, thanks alot! I appreciate it.
