Hey guys

I'll buy an asus strix x370-f gaming, (ryzen) and memory gskill trident z 3000mhz cl 15.
But i don't know if it's compatible.
Sometimes I read than yes, sometimes I read than you can't exceed 2666mhz...

Someone have same configuration? It's ok or not?

Thanks :)

If it's not on the compatibility list for your board then it will likely work but maybe not at it's rated speeds of 3000mhz CL15. Ryzen systems tend to have trouble getting memory speeds over 2933mhz. Kits that can reliably exceed 3000mhz on ryzen are usually using samsung B die IC's, I doubt a 3000mhz CL15 kit is going to be using B die. I linked a list of known b die kits below.

What do you mean abour 'b die'?
I'm sorry, i've awful English :S
I'm not sure to understand your link.
Finally, can I have 3000mhz on strix x370-f gaming with gskill trident z or not? :??:

The motherboard supports up to 2666MHz non overclocked or 3200MHz MAX with overclock. 3000MHz isn't on there as a stable configuration. If you get a 3000MHz kit it will either downclock to 2666MHz or get upset and downclock all the way to 2133MHz. Ryzen and RAM is like playing spin the wheel. I would check the motherboard qualified vendor list for a 3200MHz kit that has the capacity you want and pick the RAM based on part number. If you don't you have no guarentees at all. Even then, XMP overclocking is never 100% guaranteed to work but using your motherboard's QVL helps a lot and it's a survival tool if you are working with Ryzen.

I would just buy a 2666MHz kit personally that's on the QVL.

You said than my motherboard support non overclocked 2666 and max overclocked 3200.

And my g.skill trident z is 2133mhz non overclocked and it's 3000 overclocked.
So, it's ok no?
I don't understand, I'm between the limits, and you say than it's not stable?

Anything over 2133mhz on DDR4 is technically overclocking as it is above the JDEC standard.

Ram kit's do not get "upset" and under clock themselves, they will stay at what you set regardless of if it's stable or not or even POST's.

That depends on the particular trident z kit, they are not all the same. To keep it simple just get something on the list I linked below.

Did you already buy F4-3000C15D-16GTZR? If so some ideas are:

- Buy the Asus Strix x370-f Gaming and try to use XMP to get to 2666MHz. Worst case scenario you end up at 2133MHz. BIOS updates can help. This motherboard does NOT support 3000MHz speed but 3200MHz which your RAM doesn't work at. I may be wrong but I don't think it would run at 3000MHz (or 2933 rather) stable.

- Buy a different motherboard like the MSI Carbon x370 which would have a better chance of your RAM running at 3000MHz with XMP (Ryzen generally degrades to 2933 though but still). This board is a better pick if you have 3000MHz RAM already. Better chance of getting the RAM speed you want.

- Sell the F4-3000C15D-16GTZR, buy the ASUS, and then buy another RAM kit that is on your QVL. This is my least liked option as it will be time consuming. Also with XMP there is no guarantee even if you did all this that you would get 3000MHz. This is just an unfortunate part of Ryzen sorry.

I can't find your exact kit on various motherboard QVLs but people on reddit say they've had like with the MSI board and similar kits.

Hi, i have the same motherboard and ram, and a ryzen 5 1600 cpu. Im new to overclocking as well. Did you found out how to rise the ram speed?
Im currently running them at 2133 :S. I could use some help. Its been a while since this post started so maybe it should run fine with the updates and all.
