This is ridiculous, I thought it would be a 10 minute job, instead I'm sat for hours here sweating in 30 deg heat trying to get this thing working.

My mate has dropped off a Laptop to me - Acer Aspire A315-59 53DC as it wasn't running great and we couldn't get office to install. I decided to wipe it and start again with a fresh W11 install. (it had w11 on before). Now I've re-formatted countless PC's in the past, both laptops and desktops for over 20 years so its not like I'm clueless.

Firstly, the drive didn't show up so I had to go searching for drivers for that, never seen this before in all those years. Eventually managed to get it installed (I used the rufus version that sets up the account/privacy etc.) I also had to mess about in the bios to get the boot menu to work.

Secondly the laptop doesn't have a network connector (RJ45), absolutely ridiculous so I need wifi working.

Thirdly, the acer site is down and it seems its been that way for over a year now, so how do I get the drivers to get wifi working so I can get the sound working and trackpad etc. surely W11 has these drivers built into the install.

Acer basically seem to be saying don't reinstall windows for no cost just put it in the bin and buy a brand new one of us.

If the laptop was already having issue, are you sure the drive isn't failing?

If I looked up the right one, this appears to be a 12th gen Intel build? That should still be a quite relevant machine and worth working with. Do you have a spare drive you could use just to see if it will install as expected?

I just think it was all the bloatware he put on it. I've downloaded the drivers but now if I copy the zips to a usb drive it says it cant copy the properties whatever that means

Probably USB flash drive is formatted as exFAT.
Then, if you copy from NTFS drive to exFAT, file access permissions get lost.
Yes I thought it may be a dodgy flash drive, I tried a different one and it was ok.

I've finally got it working now though, absolute pain in the ars* though, had to download all 5 WIF drivers and keep installing them until it finally worked, of course it was the last one I tried. then once the wifi was working it seemed to download all the other stuff it needed eventually and its running fine now.

Don't know why the Acer site won't work on firefox or chrome though, maybe its the adblockers I'm running.
