Hi everyone. I've been looking into buying a new CPU. Currently, I'm running an i3 6100 (other specs listed below). The two main CPUs which catch my eye are the i7 7700 and i5 7600, however the non overclockable versions as I don't intend on getting a z series motherboard.

My pc use is for college work, gaming, (some cpu intensive games like ESO), movie watching and sometimes a little bit of video editing. Budget is not an issue for my CPU (it's ~£500), but any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Specs:
GTX 1060 6GB
Intel i3 6100 3.7GHz
8GB 2333MHz DDR4 ram (I think)
Gigabyte m-atx mobo
550W PSU
Hyper 212 Evo cpu cooler
5 fans
Don't think there's anyttning else that could be useful

Yes the i7 7700 will do you fine or get the i7 6700k which is as fast and as far as I know runs cooler than the i7 7700. They both run at same frequency so you wont lose any performance there aswell.

Also maybe its cheaper since it is 6th gen, and you dont need to update your bios for it. If not then just get the 7700 or 7700k but indeed update your bios first. :)

Thanks for your response. How would I actually update my BIOS if I was to bother going for 7th Gen?
