Hello there!

Not entirely sure which road to take at the moment, with Battlefield 3 beta ending, I’ve come to the realisation that my PC isn’t all that. Currently running on low/medium settings on the beta map and low settings with even lower resolution on the leaked Caspian Border map.
My specs are currently:

Motherboard: p7p55d-e
Processor: i5 750 @ 4.0ghz
Graphics: 5870 @ 1001/1250
Memory: 8 GB of Corsair DDR3 XMS3
PSU: 600W PSU, Corsair Builder Series CM

I have £400 to spend, friends have recommended spending money on a new graphics cards, 570 / 580 or a 6970 was thrown into the mix. Or some have told me to sell what I have and buy a p8z board with the 2500k i5’s.

I have no clue, I’m easy. I’d prefer going down the graphics card route but I’m stuck as to what to buy.

Cheers :)

Like a wise man recently said ; a 6950 ( or 70 ) is reccomended for bf3. Gtx 560ti sli would also be nice but you only have 600W so better go for a single card.
When your system is still to slow than for BF3 you can always sell your old mobo and buy a new one.

Thanks for the quick replies! Much obliged.

So you'd recommend going for the 6970? and not going all out for a 580, I tend to overbuy more than I need too.
I'd also love to run on 1920x1080 for BF3

Haha, that’s the exact issue I’m having. I have the money, but I wouldn’t like to spend something that’s pointless to my needs. I also wouldn’t like to buy something I’d have to upgrade in a year.

Anyways, thanks for clearing up my problem :)

OC'ed i5 750@4Ghz and 5870 struggling? Sounds like driver issues or you have tessalellation on. Try updating to the 11.9/11.10 beta driver, Running the game in DirectX10, or if you're playing in DirectX11 use CCC to manually disable tessellation or play with lower tessellation settings. 5870 should be able to max out settings at 1080P as long as the tessellation is turned down.

Upgrading to the 6000 series now, after it's been out for almost a year, just doesn't make it worth it when the 7000 series is right around the corner.

Hello Dayo! Um
I'm using the 11.10 Beta drivers, but I did actually have the tessellation set to AMD Controlled, so i've manually turned it off.
I'll give that a go, cheers :)

Found this BF3 beta performance test: http://www.techspot.com/review/448-battlefield-3-beta-performance/page3.html

Looks like all single gpu cards are being pushed to their limits with this game. By manually lowering tessellation on the 5870, a 5870 should stay on par with a 6950/6970. 6950/6970 series is not an upgrade for a 5870 user. Crossfire the 5870 if you want performance now or save up for a high-end 7000 series card if you can wait seems like your best options.
