Hello, I have a Packard Bell EasyNote TK85-JO-480SP which comes with 4GB of RAM (Dual channel, 2x2GB) and it has 2 RAM slots (Image). I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday (NO clean install). I wanted to upgrade to 8GB so I bought 2 sticks of the 4GB Crucial CT51264BF160BJ (link).

After removing the old ones and putting in the new one, I started the computer and it showed a Blue Screen Of Death with the error code KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. After this it keeps looping over and over.

I have tried putting both sticks individually in both positions (all 4 combinations) and it crashes even faster, without even showing the blue screen.

From what I know it looks like a compatibility issue. The new RAM runs at 1.35V (it''s a DDR3L stick) and the old one at 1.5V but I have read that this should not be a problem. Also, the new RAM's frequency is 1600 vs 667 of the old one.

Yes, I'm typing this using the same laptop. The old memory works fine.

The voltage is too low and the clock is too high. Memory can be a very touchy subject with motherboards, without the correct voltage/timing/etc it straight up won't work. This is one of those times.

So, should I get a PC3-10700 (667MHz) module working at 1.5V ?

You can try it but there is no guarantee it will work. If crucial offers that its worth trying, because unless you can get one from Acer/PB you are very limited in your options.
