Stuck on BIOS screen after CMOS reset

I will do my best here.

The computer has been running okay for several months, but lately has been having strange boot up situations, will not open disk Defrag.
I ran the system scanner which came up with the result "corrupt files found, cannot repair". The next suggestion was to start up in safe mode and try again.
We restarted and the computer got stuck on the BIOS screen. This has happened before with this computer but resetting the CMOS has brought it back to functional.
This time, after CMOS battery and power supply were out for 10+ minutes it still is only booting to the BIOS screen. Fans and lights are on and will stay that way until computer is shut off.

I've checked that all connections are secure and the USBs don't seem to be the issue.

The computer was bought from a friend so do not know all component specifics. This being the case, I am not a computer builder but am good at following instructions!

Looks like HDD is in trouble there, you'll have to try it somewhere else.
