Hello,

I am having an issue with my 64 bit Windows 10 Home desktop. Occasionally, when I lock the screen (either through the start menu or win+l), my computer gets stuck on a blue screen with spinning dots and the word 'Locking'. The only fix I have found is to hard reset it. The only other thread on this issue I found is here. Does anybody have any idea what is going on and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Kyle

Take a look at the computer's logs via Event Viewer.

Once you get oriented to the log's organization etc., look for errors or warnings that occur right after your WIN+L or start menu lock.

Of other informational events that are consistent with the lock time.

May take some time to get oriented within the logs and be able to search thereafter. Any entries of interest can be right-clicked for additional detail.

Watch for Error codes that can be googled to find out what the code may mean....

a lot of Windows 10 problems seem to only be fixed by running an "upgrade" install or reverting to a previous state before the issues occurred. though when reverting to a previous restore point you moreso risk it all happening all over again.

if you want to try:
with Windows 10 install media, start the "setup.exe" from within Windows and choose it's upgrade option. make sure you select to keep files and settings and proceed with the install. it will fix most shell and store/app problems while keeping your settings and programs intact.
the only issue i've had with many fixes this way is that your customized fonts and some default program settings may need to be reconfigured.
