Hello there,

So here is the the deal:

My friend has a 2 year old Toshiba Laptop was fully bought with Reg-Key etc ( was brand new)

His Garitnty is now over so no free Repairs there, but in my Opnion it could still be fixed.

1: starting Windows in any modus is not a problem.

2: After giving in the password to log in it freezes.( I tryed to reset, backup etc. but he as a user never did a backup so there is none.

3: I do not have a CD to recover it as well, but I do have the reg key ( as i wrote b4)

4; I can get into the X:windows\system32\cmd.exe

Here is what I would like help with,

either wipe Windows 7 completlly or reinstall it.
( I do not care about the data)

If this is not possibale I would like to get rid of Windows7 compleatly and install [ Ubuntu ] on it without duel-booting

I tryed already to install Ubuntu, with a DVD , but it will not load.. so if anyone has a good picture how I could get this done clean I will be glad.

I am not a beginner, but I am either no Pro.. ( so I do not know many commands etc.. just hobby trying to help a friend out )

Thanks ^^

Download a trial version of the OS he's using. Then boot to the advanced boot menu (usually F8 on startup). Choose safe mode with command prompt. At the prompt, type: sfc /scannow

You can use that downloaded version of windows to repair the current install.
