stuck on second time through

I have finnished doom3. It's a great game. I'm playing it through a second
time. and I'm stuck. I'm in alpha labs, at the big laser thing. I walk down
the shaft that the laser beams down, I activate the little shaft and crawl
through. I go past the bit where the barrels get thrown down at you, and
then up to a room. as I go up to the room, the steps of the staircase fall
away behind me. I pick up a pda, then I go out of the room with the pda and
there is a locked door. I expect that the pda that I just picked up should
open the door, but it doesn't, it says a couple of names as pdas that will
open the door. I backtrack a long way (back to the big laser) but there is
no path. wtf is going on??? I have restarted so many times any help
appreciated.

Don't know if this helps but I got stuck around this part until I
figured out that you can go up the stairs that blew up by jumping on
the railing.

in the room oposite the locked door there is a ladder leading up, in the
alcove that opened when you entered the room. I spent ages wandering round
looking for pda's before I found it

Yep its the lader hinden in the red alcove near the office where you found
the PDA if i remember right.. I found it easly first timt around, took days
the second time to find it.

It so funny, the same thing happened to me. I got up the ladder and
found nothing! I backtracked all over and was really frustrating, think
"I know I know this...!"

Keep poking around the pipes, you'll find a Dude behind them!
