Starting off you should know that I'm from an African country so my options are limited. All models are DDR4
Gigabyte Z690 UD: $275
MSI Pro Z690-A: $265
Gigabyte Z790 D: $330
Asus TUF Gaming Z690 Plus: $330
Z790 Aorus Elite: $380
Z690 Aorus Elite AX
I get a $30 sale on the 13600k if I pick the Gigabyte UD or Z690 Aorus Elite AX because they're from a certain store, the rest I get no discount but that doesn't mean I won't pay more to get the most reliable experience.
I've heard about the Gigabyte bios vulnerability and it scared me to say the least, as well as users complaining that it doesn't recognize ram and stuff. Sort of the same about the Asus TUF board which, according to hardwareunboxed, is the best budget Z690 with good thermals but I've heard about people complaining it started having a lot of bugs after bios updates and some have even told me it won't run 13th gen Intel without a 12th gen CPU so idk anymore. My usage will probably be on the CPU's stock settings and I won't be doing overclocking at all until I need it in 3-4 years or something but I just got me Z690 for better VRM to compensate for the hot temps in my country
EDIT: I also won't be caring about anything other than reliability and having optimal stability and cooling, I won't be even using the audio card on the motherboard because my USB headset will overwrite it

You're leaving a lot of performance on the table with many tasks not using DDR5. Last year when the prices were sky high and availability practically zero AND with slower speeds DDR4 made some sense but not today. DDR4 is EOL (End of Life). As far as a 13th gen CPU on a 12th gen chipset more than likely you're going to run into an incompatible BIOS version so at minimum you'll need a MOBO with USB Flashback .. or get a Z790 the prices are close so it's your call.

The very last place I take buying advice from is from an agenda driven YouTuber. That said, one of my rigs is an ASUS Z690 D4 TUF with an i7-12700K and it has been used hard with zero issues. CPU-Z https://valid.x86.fr/9mm3cz Also ASUS got a bad wrap from all the AMD burnt sockets, ASUS is one of the biggest MOBO companies and all of the MOBO manufactures had the same issues .. because AMD gave them ALL the same bad voltage data.

You should be able to flash a BIOS that supports the 13600K on any of those boards without booting the system up so long as you have a USB drive with the appropriate BIOS and naming on it.

The AX has slightly better VRMs than the UD so those would probably run slightly cooler, but for the most part if you're stuck with DDR4 spending a lot on a motherboard isn't terribly advisable. If there's any way for you to get DDR5 you really should do it as with 13th Gen K SKUs you're leaving performance on the table by going DDR4.

Apparently you didn't read the first sentence at all

Looki

looking at your pcpicker build. It did not have the MSI board you recommended.
Apologies if I misread your reply. Am looking to build a new system and am hesitant on the Z690 mb brand. Thank you.
He has the MSI Meg, not the MSI Pro. The MSI Pro's VRMs can't handle the 12900KS I guess, or even if they can handle it, it'll be barely and wouldn't squeeze all the performance out of it. The Pro series is most suited for 12600k/13600k and a 13700k would be safe too I guess.

Thanks! If thats the $600 ish one, beyond what I want to spend - Guess I will be re examing the forums for an MSI Z790 board & mfr - thanks very much for the response

I clearly read it which is why I mentioned it. He needs to know he's leaving performance on the table. I can't imagine any place in Africa where you can't get DDR5 especially if you can get all the other stuff and DDR4.
If you can't imagine then allow me to introduce your mind to the fact that a kit of 32gb 5200mhz ram costs like a brand new GTX 1650 here and doesn't offer more than 4% or 5% at most more than a standard DDR4 since it's only the 6000mhz kits that make somewhat of a difference and cost like a R5 5600x
