I've been helping a friend build a new PC and now, among the many issues I've encountered, I'm stuck with "Reboot and Select proper Boot device"
First off we had issues where the system would turn itself off if there was even the slightest bump to the case, removing the graphics card and making sure the board was more firmly screwed in1 helped (and helped with the high temperature).
Then we got stuck with this issue. When I looked into the BIOS I noticed neither of the two harddrives were recognized anymore (I actually had the system running for a day) I tested the harddrives by putting one into my PC and it still wasnt recognized, so we got another harddrive and decided to start from scratch.
We still get the Reboot and Select proper Boot device warning and I'm at y wits end trying to fix it (before anyone asks I reset the BIOS by pressng the reset CMOs button on the back, and by removing the battery for half an hour or so). At the boot menu I get Sata1 with the name of my harddrive, Sata6 and the name of my dvd drive, UEFI which brings me some shell feature, and then an option to go to BIOS. Choosing the SSD drive or the DVD drive gives my the same error I mentioned earlier.
I also want to point out that of course I do not have an OS installed, fro some reason the drive wont give me any option to install, if I choose either the hard drive or the dvd drive I get stuck with the same issue, as I understand it im stuck trying to boot from something that has nothing on it, but why wont the PC let me install the OS when I have the dvd in?
Hopefully somebody can help before I suggest to my friend that we just say screw it and get a replacement motherboard.
System specs: Intel i5 cpu, MSI Z97 Gaming 7 motherboard, 8gb ddr3 ram, and a GTX 960 2gb GDDR5 card on standby.
