I just got (for free) a non retina MBP from mid 2012 to use as my main computer. It has 16gb ram + 512gb SSD drive. I've only used it with (a fresh install of) Mojave and the performance is more than I need. I mostly use it at home with an external keyboard, mouse / Wacom pad (all USB) and monitor (DVI).

It has two problems though...

The mouse movement is uneven or studdering. I often miss clicks on buttons because it doesn't move as expected.

When I wake it from sleep it takes about 10-20s before the mouse can move and sometimes when I plug in my SD-card the mouse freezes for 10-20s.

If High Sierra was working I could use that just as well. Before it's end of life I'll most probably gotten a new computer anyways. But I would rather not go through the mess of reinstalling if it doesn't help.

I have been googling and found more users with similar problems but no solution though. I'm currently hoping 10.14.3 will help me. Otherwise I have no ideas.

Any ideas how to solve it?

Solution
The logic board may be going out, hence the free price. I think I had that model before. I encourage a free visit to the apple store for diagnostic. Also try another mouse. Does the trackpad work as it should?
