I attempted to download & install windows update. the VM
error keeps popping up even though the system reports that
it was installed successfully. what can I do?

Find out the knowledge base article number associated with
it and then look it up on the knowledge base. More than
likely you can load the patch separately versus loading it
via Windows update service.
