If you look at this mobo Gigabyte LGA1151 Intel H170 Micro ATX DDR4 Motherboard (GA-H170M-D3H) it says 1 Lithium ion batteries required. i thought MOBO used psus to get power? what does this mean do i need to buy some batteries with this MOBO?

Solution
Most likely the CMOS battery, which is used to save BIOS settings and such stuff, they're on every motherboard. Very similar to the type of batteries you'll find if you open up a Gameboy Color cartridge; it powers the mechanism that stores data.
In addition to what turkey3_scratch said:

If said motherboard didn't have the battery included and already installed, it would be the first time I hear of it missing.
Also gigabyte site make no mention of end user (you) having to buy said battery (Lithium ion, CR2032) yourself.

That being said, if the motherboard is sold as used... there could be more amiss than just dead battery.
