Stuttering/fps drops and games not smooth at all gtx 1070

Hello everyone, two months ago i got a Zotac GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme, since i got it my games ain't smooth at all even when the fps is high, too many fps drops and stutterings/micro-stutterings, and then i thought "this never happened to me with my old gtx 650 🙁".

I know my cpu might be a problem, it is an i5 4460, but the thing is, could my gtx 1070 be underperforming? how to be sure of that?

Also, it's related to the micron memory issue? as this card seems to be extremely unstable and i cant find a way to overclock it, and when i do, the overclock performance is worst than the performance at stock settings

#edit1 forgot to tell, i only play at 1080p.

If you have your game settings on low then raise them to the highest because if you play a game with low settings the GPU isn't being used very much. If this works then great and if it doesn't then it might be because of the 4460 but it shouldn't because that CPU is still relatively good and can run triple A games at maximum settings.

Have you tried MSI Afterburner? I couldn't get ASUS software to OC mine, but afterburner works like a beast.
What's the display you're using? What's its refresh rate? When the stutters happen, what do the frames drop to?

If this works then great and if it doesn't then it might be because of the 4460 but it shouldn't because that CPU is still relatively good and can run triple A games at maximum settings.

I did the oppositve, no more stuttering on low at battlefield 1, fps between 70-100, went down to 40 three times in more or less 50 minutes, but i was also not sure if the game was smooth. If i switch to ultra the struggles begins, fps still pretty much the same, but this time between 30-100, tried turning v-sync on and the game became totally unplayable.

Thanks for the tip, still can't OC my gpu clock without freezing my entire computer, managed to OC my memory to 4600MHZ (+500), i got almost 0.7fps for each 100mhz added to the memory. My monitor refreshrate is 60mhz, 1080p display. Stutters are mostly random and sometimes when i'm too close to an enemy or trying to kill him (or he trying to kill me) at battlefield 1. In watch dogs 2/gta v they're totally random.

Yeh but changing it to 75% would be like playing this game at 720p in a 1080p monitor, even my old gtx 650 managed to run bf1 at 100% of resolution scale with 40+ fps on low, if i've had a GTX 650 sli i guess it might beat my gtx 1070 performance.

Yeh they're but i never had those stutters when using my old gtx 650.

So, if you look around the forum that seems to be the answer is reducing resolution scale.

Lots of games have tailored coding towards specific models of cards. An older card won't necessarily display the same as a newer card graphically on screen even at the same settings.

Masking the problem by lowering the resolution scale ins't the solution i'm looking for. Basically my question is; How do i know if my gtx 1070 is underperforming?

Bf1 runs like garbage on i5 processors. Do some googling around to confirm this. I had a 4670k and a 1070 and bf1 ran like crap, upgraded to an i7 and the stuttering / fps drops went away 100 percent.

Thousands of people have problems with stuttering on bf1 in particular with i5's.

Use msi afterburners on screen overlay and have it show you cpu / gpu usage while in game. If cpu usage is constantly 90-100% and you see gpu usage is under 90% (40-80%ish) at times, it's your processor choking.

Seems i'll never know if it is underperforming if i don't get an i7.

You can run some benchmarks like firestrike and timespy and see if your gpu score matches up with other 1070's, I'm doubting the gpu is under performing but you never know.

I unselected the current solution because i thought something, my i5 ins't really bottlenecking. Actually dewjustin said the right thing with the wrong words, higher-level api's (pascal) runs like garbage with i5 processors, its requesting too much information from my processor and not working by its own, a lower-level api would never do this.

I just keep thinking the same... after watching some truly reviews i've made my mind, pascal is overrated.
