Hello first time poster long time lurker and I'm posting to see if you guys could make any recommendations on the items I've chosen for my first build PC and also if there are any compatibility issues with the components I've chosen.

Approximate Purchase Date: May-June

Budget Range: Preferably not over $850

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (not worried about running games at the absolute best), Running around two virtual machines, General purpose.
Parts Not Required: PSU (Bought a Antec TP-750 Blue), mouse, keyboard, speakers, Win7 Home Premium, RAM.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, amazon.com

Country of Origin: United States

Parts Preferences: AMD, Asus mobo, ATX case and mobo

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: It’s a 720p Television that’ll I’ll be using via HDMI

Additional Comments: Willing to go a couple of bucks over, but would like to remain around $850.

Alright so here are the parts I’m thinking of using any information on compatibility issues or recommendation would be very much appreciated:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition $139.99

Mobo: ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO $119.99 After rebate $109.99

Case: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Comes with four fans. $69.99

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX $59.99

Optical Drive: ASUS OEM Drive $19.99

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium Purchased for $89.99

PSU: Antec Truepower 23754 TP-750 BLUE Purchased for $79.99

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) Model F3-10666CL7D-8GBXH Purchased for $80 on sale.

GPU: Undecided Between these two interested in both of them because of their lifetime warranties:
Sparkle SXX4601024D5UNM GeForce GTX 460 $169.99 After Rebate $129.99
or
XFX HD685XZNDC Radeon HD 6850 XXX Edition $189.99 After rebate 169.99

Total Prices: Before Rebates $829.92 (GTX 460 1 GB) and $849.92 (HD 6850 GPU) After Rebates $779.92 (GTX 460 1 GB) and $819.92 (HD 6850 GPU)

Really leaning towards the GTX 460 as it will get me well below my price range. Also the games I'll be looking to play are StarCraft II, Half Life Series, Portal 2, BFBC2, Mass Effect Series, and Crysis 2.

Again any help would be much appreciated.

You could check out my build guide for 600$, then since you have 800, just change the i3 2100 to an i5 2400. That'll put you at around 670$. Give you way more perf. Since you have 30$ more, just add a 6870 instead of the 6850.

Cool thanks guys. I think I'll wait till the end of this month to see if there are any good combo deals before buying anything and I'll look at the guide as well.
