Subwoofer will not deactivate when using headphones

I don't really know if you could help me, I mean, this seems to be more of a problem that requires someone to see what's happening personally, but maybe that won't be needed.

My laptop is awesome, worth the price and I have solved many of the problems that where previously irritating like it freezing when trying to install a game.

Anyway, I seem to have another problem now, this time is on the audio department: When I plug in my headphones I can still hear sound coming from my computer, I checked and found out that it is actually coming from my computer's subwoofer, the only way to disable it is to actually lower the volume down to 0, even using mute will not turn off the subwoofer and will still play at the volume it is left at.

I have tried searching for what could cause the problem, trying every possible combination of sound drivers that could be the source of the issue but I cant find the solution, does anyone know what could be happening? Windows has no information on these things and it seems to be something unique since I cant find a similair problem on google.

It seems to be a known issue with that laptop. There is nothing much you can do other than changing the speakers type from Control Panel (search on the internet for tutorials if you can't figure it out) and connecting your headphones. This may solve your problem. I don't think you are doing anything wrong.

Try the steps I described above with the help of internet resources for guidance, and then wait for their answer. I bet they don't have one for you on this one. If they do, I lose and I would like to hear it.

Sorry, emailing you would lose the whole purpose of sharing info for everyone here on the forum. Let's try and help you here.

Can you please post the sound card specifications, sound output/input ports names on chassis, and the "combination" of sound drivers you are talking about.

In your control panel, you will find info about your sound card in the SOUND option. You can look at the chassis and tell us about the ports. I don't really need anything other than name of the sound card and the driver(s) you are using.

My apologies but I cant seem to find the information on my sound drivers, I'm going to control Panel > Sound and then I am trying to find where I can see the info but I dont know where to go.

also, I run a sound test, It appears that the subwoofer activates in the place of the right speaker, if all speakers are on is hard to tell, but if I mute my speakers the subwoofer still plays sound and the test seems to indicate that is coming from the right one.

Hoping you have Windows 7 operating system running on your computer, do the following -

a) Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System (blue computer icon)

b) Look at the left hand side pane, and select Device Manager.

c) When Device Manager window opens, it will list all the components you have.

d) Expand Sound, Video and Game controllers option (usually fourth from bottom).

e) Give us everything you see there (names). Type it here for us.

f) As I told you above, please physically look at the sound card outputs where your speakers/headphones whatever are connected and tell us what's connected to where, and what ports are left without any connections, and what they say (line in/mic in/line out/front/rear/center...whatever. It is a laptop, so I am guessing you have just one/two ports with headphone icon on it and one with microphone on it? if that's the case, please say it here.

Sorry for the delay but I needed to restart my password.

Anyway, here is the info that it shows:

About my speakers, this is a laptop, my speakers are built in, I can tell that they come from a part in the middle between the keyboard and my screen. My subwoofer however is below, at the left side from the touch pad and that is where i am hearing the sound coming from. I actually have 3 audio imputs, the mic and the headphone ones are at the left side, but there is a thrid one which came closed and I guess I would have to go to a technitian to get it open, it says is an ATAPI internal ATAPI Jack, the icon remains black.

I noticed something that may be a part of the problem, I checked the name for the other imput jacks, the one for headphone and the other for the mic, their names displayed are ATAPI internat ATAPI jack for the mic and Rear Panel 3.5mm Jack for the headphones, this one, for the headphones, seems to be highlighted green even if I'm not using it, is this normal or do you think could be part of the problem?

I know this sounds simplistic but... Have you tried rebooting? I've had this happen on occasion with my ASUS EeePC (and of course, it happened while viewing some... less-than-family-friendly material, while my roommate was in the next room). A simple reboot worked.

Your explanation is very wordy to me and thus confusing. If you can either give me the exact model number and brand of your laptop like I have requested above, OR, take a sharp photograph of ALL the audio ports and attach it here, it would be of a great help.

Also, are you saying that you aren't using the green highlighted port to plug in your headphones? Which port is your headphones connected to, then?

I'm using windows 7 64-bit

I can't reboot my system, it did not came with that feature, all it has is system restore which only helps me go back to saved points, I think I could just go back and maybe that would solve it but I'd rather find a solution without having to rely on restoration all the time, unless its a last method.

I'm not using my headphones right now, in the sound device manager it shows that the jack for the headphones is highlighted green when it should be purple when not in use.

Any more information you need?

Victor19 is right. Another post talks about the same issue but unfortunately people don't always end the topic with good information.

Your best bet is also to get in touch with Asus support as this laptop has many issues with that subwoofer I am guessing.

I am sure he must be switching the laptop off (power off) and on again so technically he has trying restarting the computer. He seems inexperienced with the terminologies so got confused.

If you get in touch with ASUS and get a solution, please type it here for other users.

Well I'm not actually not that inexperienced, I actually misunderstood what they meant by reboot. Yes I have tried doing that but the problem is the same.

I have contacted asus indeed, but they are yet to give me an answer. Maybe I'm not being especific with the problem.

How about this: My subwoofer still plays sound although my main speakers are on mute, if I lower the volume instead of muting the speakers I will stop hearing sound from the subwoofer as well, so maybe the problem is that the subwoofer is not being turned off when it must, does this help?

:hello: call"chipheads" you can find a phone number on the web(i lost the number :( ) they give free advice-mine was for headphones plugged in and system speakers still blasting out loud can: pay ~50$ if you take it in (sound-card and labor)ten minute wait,or if you know how to get into that casing yourself buy a sound-card and install it yourself.I have not made up my mind what I want to do as yet, but you might benefit from talking to a tech there.
