Question Sudden failure of GTX 980 after installing in new build

Hi all. I took my trusty reliable GTX 980 out of my old i7-3770k build and popped it into my new Ryzen 3700x build and on the first run of windows there was a sudden flash on the screen and now it artifacts like crazy. I popped it back into the old build and it still does it. It doesn't artifact until windows loads. I have been studying heat guns and throwaway toaster ovens but I don't know if there is any hope for this card. I ended up buying a 2070 Super for the Ryzen build but I'd love to salvage the 980 for other uses if possible. Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations or advice?

It runs as cool as a cucumber and the artifacting starts as soon as it clears the bios
